About Us
D. Y. Patil College of Nursing began its academic journey in 2006 with the B.Sc. Nursing programme, and has grown steadily and purposefully in the years since. The Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing programme followed in 2009, and the M.Sc. Nursing programme was introduced in 2012 with a single speciality; by 2014, this had expanded to five specialities: Medical-Surgical Nursing, Child Health Nursing, Obstetrics & Gynaecological Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, and Community Health Nursing, each admitting a focused cohort to ensure close mentorship and depth of clinical exposure.
As a constituent unit of D. Y. Patil Education Society (Deemed to be University), Kolhapur, and an institution recognised by the Government of Maharashtra, the Indian Nursing Council, and the Maharashtra Nursing Council, the College holds itself to rigorous academic and clinical standards. The curriculum is designed not merely to build technical competence, but to prepare graduates for the fuller scope of professional nursing practice: as clinicians, educators, supervisors, and managers across hospital and public-health settings.
The student community reflects the diversity of the country itself. Every year, classrooms welcome students from different states, linguistic backgrounds, and cultural traditions, learning and training side by side. This diversity is not incidental to the experience of studying here, it shapes it, teaching every student as much about people as about patients, and preparing them for a profession that will, throughout their careers, ask exactly that of them.
Life at the College extends well beyond the classroom, with strong emphasis on personal attention to every student, discipline and professional etiquette, and a code of conduct that reflects the dignity of the nursing profession. Students participate actively in the National Service Scheme, the National Cadet Corps, National Health Day observances, sporting events, and cultural and social gatherings, an ecosystem that nurtures well-rounded professionals alongside competent clinicians.
India has long stood as a trusted source of skilled nursing talent for healthcare systems around the world, and graduates are well placed to build careers within this landscape and beyond it. A dedicated Placement Cell has helped alumni take up roles with the NHS (UK), in the USA, across the Gulf, and within Central and State Government health services, while the Memorandum of Understanding with BorderPlus equips interested graduates with German-language training in support of nursing careers in Germany. Many graduates also go on to serve in nursing education, as faculty and mentors to the next generation of nurses. Meritorious students are further supported through the Sou. Shantadevi D. Patil Merit Scholarship, a legacy initiative of the D. Y. Patil Group.
